Attack Prevention Article Evaluation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Attack Prevention Article Evaluation - Essay Example Before attempting to observe the issue, it is essential to understand the focal point of user domain itself. This is a huge focal point in managing security in IT networks. In essence, user domain is defined  as set of objects that allow a user to have controls and permissions. In essence, user domains can overlap. Another element of user domains is the fact that is allows users to possess segregation of duties. Segregation of duties allows users to have separate domains and grant permissions. User domains can range from simple user access accounts or it can be a specific domain such as sales, marketing, and managers.   Unlike traditional firewalls  that only guard the parameters of the traditional IT infrastructure, virtualization  firewalls  provide comprehensive security measures that monitor activity within clients. If one machine is to be attacked by a host, the other machine automatically copies data in almost dynamic time that the user is not aware of the situation. Clearly, that is a huge benefit for organizations since it allows them to have a safety net in case of an attack. The Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a critical precautionary tool that monitors the network through monitoring packets that are passed within users. The first and easiest application of virtualization for security purposes is known as application isolation. This is a huge component towards the security aspect because it allows IT managers to gain leverage over application stability and application allocation. One of the worst vulnerabilities for user domains are insider attacks. Insider attacks occur. For instance, denial of service and spoofing are one the most common themes that occur. The problem is the fact that intercepting authentication or other sensitive information can be executed with the current WAN technology since it utilizes the traditional TCP/IP in user domains. A

Reconstruction of African Americans Dbq Essay Example for Free

Reconstruction of African Americans Dbq Essay African Americans were given the opportunity to vote. There opinion began to matter. As Alfred H. Ward expresses in his art black men waiting in a line, it means much more than a single file. Displaying the men dressed in different outfits and uniforms waiting to put in their opinion, their vote (Document A). Negroes were now being viewed as another person and another opinion needed. It was even expressed that one shall not be denied a vote for their race (Document C). This is yet again another prime example of the African Americans new progress in a political aspect. Though it may seem a simple and smooth change it wasn’t a golden path through the transformation, some still could not accept the fact that black deserve to have the right to vote. Dramatic words and publication were existent during the late 19-century, even a cartoon was published of an African American man dying, and reason of death being he used his right to vote (document F). Soon the African Americans had their heads soaring high, some people were finally giving them some social respect. Along with the 14th amendment supporting their new freedom things seemed to be changing. Simply re stated â€Å" no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States† just with the first statement, African Americans are entitled to even more rights (Document B). Again, the civil rights act of 1875, this enacted that all persons of the U. S. shall be entitled to full enjoyment of accommodations, advantages, and privileges of inns, public water and entertainment. Also stating that this is applicable to every citizen of every race (Document D). Though yet again things were not always so positive and equal. â€Å"Jim crow laws of the deep south† created many restrictions and much un fair treatment. To the extent of marriages between white and blacks were prohibited in Florida (Document H). In Georgia one could not burry an African American where whites were buried (Document H). Also, in Mississippi, discussion of or defending for social equality would immediately be guilty of a misdemeanor (Document H). Some cases so harsh that blacks who would assert their rights would face unemployment, eviction, and sometimes physical harm. From evidence shown the African Americans had dramatic reconstruction stages in both political views along with social views. They received some respect and rights of being created equal. They also received their right to vote. Though, it didn’t all become easy and perfect they had much progress of reconstruction. Many changes were made. As many lives were transformed.

American Indian Wars :: essays research papers

American Indian Wars   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There is perhaps a tendency to view the record of the military in terms of conflict, that may be why the U.S. Army’s operational experience in the quarter century following the Civil War became known as the Indian wars. Previous struggles with the Indian, dating back to colonial times, had been limited. There was a period where the Indian could withdraw or be pushed into vast reaches of uninhabited and as yet unwanted territory in the west. By 1865 the safety valve was fast disappearing. As the Civil War was closed, white Americans in greater numbers and with greater energy than before resumed the quest for land, gold, commerce, and adventure that had been largely interrupted by the war. The besieged red man, with white civilization pressing in and a main source of livelihood, the buffalo, threatened with extinction, was faced with a fundamental choice: surrender or fight. Many chose to fight, and over the next 25 years the struggle ranged over the plains, mountains, and the deserts of the American West. These guerrilla wars were characterized by skirmishes, pursuits, raids, massacres, expeditions, battles, and campaigns of varying size and intensity.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In 1865, there was a least 15 million buffalo, ten years later, fewer than a thousand remained. The army and the Bureau of Indian Affairs went along with and even encouraged the slaughter of the animals. By destroying the buffalo herds, the whites were destroying the Indian’s main source of food and supplies. The only thing the Indians could do was fight to preserve their way of life. There was constant fighting among the Indian and whites as the Indians fought to keep their civilization. Indian often retaliated against the whites for earlier attacks that whites had imposed on them. They often attacked wagon trains, stage coaches, and isolated ranches. When the army became more involved in the fighting, the Indians started to focus on the white soldiers.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In 1862, when the north and south were locked in Civil War, Minnesota felt the fury of an even more fundamental internal conflict. The Santees, an eastern branch of the Sioux Nation, having endured ten years of traumatic change on the upper Minnesota River, launched the first great attack in the Indian wars. Eleven years earlier the tribe had sold 24 million acres of hunting ground for a lump sum of $1,665,000 and the promise of future cash annuities.

Communication Improved Through the Use of Texting

Communication Improved Through the use of Texting and Facebook What is communication? Communication can be defined as the process of exchanging information, ideas and messages from one person to another. An important factor in communication is the existence of a medium through which the message is being communicated; this may include the use of letters, emails, texts, word of mouth as well as social networks such as Facebook. One of the communication mediums that are now being used widely is the use of the social network site Facebook, which was introduced in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg.Subscribers to Facebook create a profile which can have personal and general information about themselves to be seen by other subscribers. Cellular texting was introduced in the 1990s as a written form of communication that would work alongside verbal or voice calls, a service provided by cellular phones. This was through the introduction of Short Messaging Service (SMS) which makes use of the twenty six letters of the alphabet and the ten numerical to create a display that allows for at least one hundred and sixty characters.Through the use of cellular texting and the social networking site Facebook, the communication between people has improved the efficiently and the effectively. Facebook is a form of communication medium that encourages universalism as it breaks down barriers across all ages, continents, gender, race, religion and thus helps to eliminate discrimination. Facebook is a worldwide network, it brings together families as they are able to remain friends and often communicate with others. One of the ideas of communication is to spread information, and Facebook helps to achieve this, â€Å"states Professor Sethi, who teaches at MIT about business communication. The social network’s ability to be accessed through the internet, by mobile handsets as well as through computers, has increased its usage. Facebook, provides better access to information, this is because it portrays information in a fun and lively manner that is appealing to most people.A subscriber can have friends from all over the world, which one can interact with. The use of Facebook in communication has helped to create long lasting relationships that have at times led to marriages, partnerships, and even at times business deals, according to a study done in California on the effects social networks. The ability to interact with different people provides an opportunity for interaction that can create good relations. Facebook allows one to pass information or exchange ideas any time or place across any time period.Facebook allows for privacy, in that the user can setup their account profiles to show as much personal information as the person wants an anonymous profile. A survey done on the connections made through a social networking site shows that by setting up ones profile to only show information that one desires, it will help many who may have otherwise been social outcas ts, to interact with others and share ideas. Communication is meant to positively impact and by creating friends one is able to share and relieve stress.Effective communication is at times very difficult to achieve and maintain. This is because there are several barriers or obstacles that prevent the conversation; however the use of cellular texting has helped to reduce the case of interruptions such as noise which would have otherwise affected the communicating of information. An article on The Social Construction and Usage of Communication Technologies discusses how one can send and receive a message even in an area that is very noisy, when it is raining as well when driving, without necessarily disrupting their work. Texting also allows for a faster transfer of information as it only takes less than one minute to spread information,† states Richard Ling an associate for Version Wireless. Texting is simply an easier way to communicate with many different people all at the sa me time. Ling also gives the example of having to call six different friends individually, people are now able to get on their cell phones and ask all six friends the same question at once with ease. Someone can text what they are feeling just as easily as saying something aloud. Some would even go as far as to say that it is easier to get all your feelings out through a text rather than fumble your way through talking to someone in person; with texting, one is able to first read ones thoughts before sending them out. Texting is a new and beneficial way to communicate with others in a faster and easier way. Cellular texting also allows for the storage of records which can be used later as a reference. Since texting is a written form of communication it tends to be longer lasting and more valuable.According to Doctor Marquez a professor at the University of Southern California, texting also helps to maintain consistency between the two parties that are communicating in continuing thei r last conversation. Communicating through texting allows for a personal and private form of communication since the message is only received by the intended recipient and not any other person. The use of texting allows for confidentiality and encourages communication to continue, therefore creating long lasting relationships. Some people might argue there are disadvantages to the use of Facebook and cellular texting, because communication is designed to overcome all barriers and pass the information to all. â€Å"The use of Facebook in most countries tends to block out some disabled people and especially those who are visually impaired,† Jonathan Fiske an advocate for the visual impaired discuses. Since most phones and computers favour those who can see, this discriminates the blind. Facebook has developed recently; many people of the older generation cannot use it effectively. This means that they will be blocked from the information that is being passed to others.Effective communication does not discriminate; even those who are illiterate or not technology savvy should be able to communicate. Since the increase in the use of Facebook and cellular texting, most people have avoided face to face communication. Not only does it affect a person’s listening skills, it also encourages laziness therefore breaking the connection of information and possibly causing wrong feedback. There are also the increased chances of misinterpretation that causes several conflicts; this is because most texts and Facebook posts are sent by people who are far away. This means that there is nobody observing the non verbal messages that the information is presenting. However, despite the disadvantages in communicating information through the use of Facebook and texting, it is more productive and popular. The use of acronyms and shortened language in most of the mobile texts and Facebook posts, written communication has been greatly affected. This is because, many people es pecially the younger generations are addicted to this form of writing, therefore are not able to differentiate between social messaging and school work.Professor Aleman, an English professor, lectures about how the use of shortened language in texts has also affected language and grammar use of many people, and also affecting their verbal communication techniques. If one is not able to communicate effectively then one may become a social loner as he or she may have less friends to talk to. This reduces the proper form of written communication. The use of cellular texting and the social network site Facebook has improved the effectiveness and efficiency of communication in today’s society. The barriers that communication faces on a daily biases are eliminated through the use of texting and Facebook, and therefore the transfer of a message or conversation is properly communicated. Proper communication acts as a tool, as information is well communicated so that any form of misint erpretation can be avoided. Even though the creation of social networks such as Facebook and the introduction of cellular texting may be viewed by some as a negative advancement in technology, it has become the best way to pass information.
